I hope to grow these services over time, but for now, this is what Written Off Writing can give you, either free or through our Patreon
There is a monthly donation tier on Patreon. You can pledge $5 a month because you think it is an awesome idea. This will give you access to the newsletter when it launches, and access to special offers when they’re created.
Firstly, by being on this site and being curious, you’ve got one foot in the door to being a writer.
Secondly, the Written Off model is designed for people who don’t think they’re writers, or are struggling to write. So welcome. You’re in the perfect place to begin.
You just broke rule #2- you’re not allowed to say anything negative about yourself or your writing.
But we get it, sometimes the awesome ideas in your head don’t 100% translate into your words on paper. That’s okay. Write something new! Use the free prompt generators, connect on the Patreon Member Discord, and get a new idea to work on.
There are so many ideas out there for you!
Of course not! We hold free Plot Twists on a semi-regular basis. There is a free ideas prompt generator section on this website. Go forth and write!
Paying to the Patron gets you access to a Written Off Community, directed free writing sessions, and potentially more.
More or less, sure. Plot Twists will give you a starting location for your story, and then every ten minutes you’ll get a random Plot Twist. You can choose to use it or not, but it does add fuel to your hungry creative beast!
The Written Off wriring groups are similar, but each session has a small Drabble Prompt and a large themed prompt. What you do with it is up to you.
We give you a nudge, and help and support and the coloured crayons, and then you get to create.
I’d first suggest you’re trying too hard to be perfect. Just writing anything, stream of consciousness, something silly, exercises the creative centres of your brain.
And secondly, that’s fine. If you can’t think of anything to write, not a problem. It happens. There will be more ideas next time, so don’t sweat it.
Written Off has its origins in lockdown, when we were all asked to reach out, online, and connect with our friends.
The model also works to connect people without the need to drive somewhere and be someplace. No matter where you are in Australia, or the world (we work on Australian time BTW), you can connect and start writing.
Dress comfortably, have bottomle cups of tea, and write in your own environment.
For now, yes. This is a growing idea, a growing writing movement. The groups are deliberately scheduled outside of work hours for two reasons. 1- I know many people who want to write, but full-time work hampers them, so this way they can write around their work. 2- I have a full-time job, so I, too, need to work around that.
If this thing explodes, then I will look at more services to help writers and creatives.
